The wine- and fruit growing village of Brje consists of numerous hamlets and is situated in the west part of the Vipava Hills. The last census showed that there are 382 inhabitants in the village.
The landscape around the village is beautiful and picturesque due to many hills, gorges and dales. The buildings in the hamlet of Kodrova are built in Mediterranean style with arched cellars and semicircular portals. Above Brje, at 331 metres above sea level, stands the highest-lying hamlet of Sv. Martin with the magnificent Church of St. Martin which divides the Vipava Valley from the Branica Valley. The hamlet of Sv. Martin offers you a beautiful view on both, the Vipava Valley and the margin of the Trnovo Forest in the NE and the Karst in the SW. If you are lucky and the weather is fine, your eye can even reach the sea.

A Glance into the Past
Brje is known for its rich winegrowing tradition. As it is located on the sunny slopes of the Vipava Hills many vineyards spread across the village’s surroundings. Already in 1899 the local winegrowers established the Winegrowing and Winemaking Association in order to share knowledge and experience. One of the co-founders was the famous Slovene poet, Simon Gregorčič. The association is still very active, among other things it organises the celebration of St. Martin’s Day every year.

Through the village runs the Vipava Wine Road. The guests are welcome to visit the wine cellars, where they can try out fine home-made wine and traditional dishes of the Vipava Valley. The village offers also accommodation at the Birsa Tourist Farm.

Another association established in Brje is the Norma 7 Asociation, which organizes exhibitions and literary evenings. These events take place in the association’s facilities or in the old school building. This way it is taken care for a wide variety of cultural events in the village. Besides that, the association also participates in organizing the Festival of the Local Community.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the people of Brje recently renewed the mortuary, which was designed by the well-known architect Maks Fabiani. Besides that, he designed many buildings and urban centres of numerous villages in the Primorska region.

The events:
St. Martin’s Sunday
The Sts. Cyril and Metodhius Šagra on 7 July – the events take place throughout the whole week
